Job Role Summary

ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company has an immediate opening for a Member of Technical Staff at its Corporate Strategic Research laboratory located in Annandale, NJ. We are seeking a candidate in genetic engineering to join a team executing programs aimed at understanding and manipulating metabolism as it applies to the oil and gas industry including algae biofuels, petroleum microbiology, and bioconversion. The successful candidate will participate in both experimental and analytical activities including cultivation, characterization of metabolism and physiology, and genetic modification. Opportunities exist in both algal and bacterial genetics.

Job Role Responsibilities

A PhD in synthetic biology, molecular biology, or related field is required. The successful candidate must have a strong background and demonstrated scientific excellence in experimental biology and genetic engineering.

The successful candidate should be willing to explore new areas with an interdisciplinary team, have excellent analytical and leadership skills, and outstanding communication skills allowing him or her to develop broad based research programs.

 

Expected Level of Proficiency

Previous experience with genetics applicable to algae is required.  Additional experience in microbial physiology or metabolism of hydrocarbons is desirable. Postdoctoral or industry research experience is also desirable.
