Chlamydomonas cells contain two contractile vacuoles (CV) involved in osmoregulation. In several other systems aquaporins play in important role in CV function. The Chlamydomonas genome contains only one putative aquaporin. To address the function of the Chlamydomonas single aquaporin, we use an RNAi approach and GFP-fusion proteins to investigate the subcellular localization in-vivo. First results will be presented.
