Phenotype: impaired motility

The fla16 mutant was isolated by Piperno in the 137c background, after mutagenesis with nitrosoguanidine. It showed temperature-conditional flagellar assembly. The original fla16 appeared to be unlinked to fla17 (Iomini et al., 2001) but in a later study (2009) Iomini et al. found that the mutant deposited in the stock collection did not recombine with fla17-1. They therefore renamed this strain fla17-3.
