Phenotype: impaired motility
The io- phenotype first appeared in a pf23 culture in Witman’s laboratory. Whereas pf23 has short paralyzed flagella and lacks inner dynein arms, the IO strain has paralyzed flagella of normal length and lacks the outer arm and most of the inner arms as well.
